Future Telecommunicatons Projects
The National Fibre Optic Cables

Optic fibres are the most advanced technology in the field of telecommunications. The project aims at substituting the old national microwave network by an optic fibres network.
The project is being implemented through a number of phases with Medani Towns as its centre.

The First Phase:
  • It began on the first of September 1996 with a route starting from Medani town and ending in Port Sudan on the Red Sea via Khartoum and Atbara towns.
  • Implementation of Medani-Haya route to meet Medani-Port Sudan route of the first phase via Gadarif and Kassala towns.
  • Medani-Damazin route, via Sennar and Senga towns.
The Second Phase includes:
Extension of the network to cover Khartoum, Duiem, Kosti, Al-Obeid, Neyala, Zalengi and Al-Genaina towns.
The Third Phase Includes:
Extension of the network to Kosti, Renk and Malakal towns.
The Fourth Phase:
Extension of the network to Atbara Abu Hamad - Karima - Dongola and Half towns.
By the completion of the network all points on it will be connected by national and international telecommunication services as well as control lines and the Internet and others.
V. Sat Project:

The V. Sat Project involves small satellite stations for transmitting information via the computer. It is the most modern telecommunication technology. The V. Sat Project is characterized by the possibility of moving the station from place to place. It can also be operated by solar energy in places where electricity is not available. It is efficient in conveying information at a reasonable cost.

The Sudan and the Internet:

The Sudan is among the first countries to utilize this advanced international network of exchanging information worldwide through the computer. Measures and steps for completing operation of the Internet during his year are being made. Subscription will be open for all individuals and institutions without any condition. Subscription fees range between $150 - 200 annually besides a monthly fee of $30.
