The government asserted that its adherence to application of Islamic law (sharia), does not mean that the rights of Christians and non-Muslims would be affected in Sudan.
The remark was made when the Assistant to the President of the Republic, Nafie Ali Nafie was addressing celebrations of Coptic held, Sunday, January 16, at Shendi town, on accession of the Christmas. Dr. Nafie said that all the strife entries between Muslims and Christians in Sudan were closed.
He called on the opposition forces to take the dialogue as a way to reach the goals, refusing the threats to change existing government by force through the popular uprising, affirming that it was chosen by the people through the ballot box.
